‘News by Drew:’ An outlet for Andrew’s passion, a source of information for the rest of us!

The Olean Center’s Facebook page had a new, lively, informative feature added when Andrew decided he was going to provide a newscast featuring local events, weather and general information he felt others would appreciate.

Thus was born “News by Drew!”

Each segment begins with Direct Support Professional Donna Swanson announcing “Newwsss Byyyyy Drewwwwww” complete with the sound of an old AP ticker tape machine. Andrew chooses the topics based on current events in the greater Westerly area and prepares his scripts.

“It’s something I always had in the back of my mind, but I never thought I could do it,” Andrew said.

He started with a weather forecast and after watching the video Donna had provided he felt more comfortable.

“I like to watch news, but just the local news and weather not the national political stuff,” Andrew said, when asked how he became interested in reporting. “I like to share new information and then people can share it too so it spreads.”

Andrew let people know about the state’s project to change exit numbers on I-95, “because it was confusing for people,” and it certainly was!

He’s provided the daily schedule for the Washington County Fair, and has announced upcoming events scheduled by the Olean Center. After taking a few months off, Andrew is ready to get in front of the camera again to keep us all informed!
