Stacy’s volunteer service at the Jonnycake Center is a win for everyone
The Olean Center provides the community with a wonderful source of volunteer help.
For example, Stacy C. has volunteered at the Jonnycake Center of Westerly for more than 25 years.
In her current role, she patrols all of the clothing racks to make sure they are in good order. She removes empty hangers and places them in bins for staff members to use when new clothing items need to be displayed.
Stacy also serves as an unofficial Greeter as customers walk in.
“It’s a fantastic job,” Stacy says. “I like counting and I have to count the hangers. I counted 105 one day,” she said.
Stacy is escorted by Tammy Pugsley Paul, her Direct Support Professional, who added that Stacy is always outgoing and personable.
“Stacy loves talking with the customers and she makes sure everybody who comes in gets a big “Hi!” Tammy said.
The Center’s Volunteer program offers yet another opportunity for inclusion, and provides vocational skill development, said Executive Director Ruth Tureckova.
“Stacy’s work at the Jonnycake Center is a wonderful example of the Olean Center participants being important members of our community,” Ruth said. “Our Volunteer Program is also a way for us to give back to the community, so it’s a win for everyone involved.”
