This past fall, Westerly Land Trust welcomed Olean Center participants and staff to the Avondale Farm Preserve for hands-on nature adventures.
During Pollinator Safari and Feathered Friends outings, children and adults explored the preserve using binoculars, nets, and even a gentle “bug vacuum” that allowed insects to be viewed up close before being safely released. The experience encouraged curiosity, connection, and a whole new way of seeing the natural world.
“It was incredibly rewarding to see people of all ages and abilities connect with nature,” said Lauren Barber. “Some participants told us they’d been here before—but this time, they noticed so much more.”
One participant summed it up simply: ““I thought it was a great experience — fresh air, exercise, and nature!”
Lauren, from the Land Trust, and Olean Center Children’s Program Director Jason Lanzillo are already working together to continue this meaningful collaboration throughout 2026. Westerly Land Trust outing provides ‘fresh air, exercise, and nature!
